VA Elk Stocking

DGIF - Construction of Elk Quarantine Facility – Bureau Wildlife technical staff returned on December 30th from Pineville, KY where they had worked intermittently since December 8th to construct an elk quarantine facility. This work was undertaken in cooperation with staff from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation. The facility will be used to hold captured elk for observation and disease testing before transfer to other states. Missouri will trap elk this winter, and Virginia will start trapping elk next winter. VDGIF plans to trap and transfer 75 elk to Virginia during the winter of 2011-2012.
