DGIF – Elk Trapping in Kentucky – Bureau staff concluded elk trapping in Bell County, Kentucky on January 21st. Staff assisted the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Missouri Department of Conservation in the capture of forty-nine elk. This work, which occurred over a several-week period in January, provided valuable training in elk trapping and handling techniques necessary for the management of Virginia’s existing elk population. The elk captured in Kentucky will be held in a quarantine facility for 93 days before transport to a release site in Missouri.
